"A Nightmare On  Elm Street 7"    Return to Makeup Effects Index

Nightmare on Elm Street 7 marked the return of Wes Craven to the Elm Street Franchise. Part of Craven's vision required creating a new look for Freddy. This was to be the real Freddy that actually inspired Craven to create the original story and movie. This version is a lot smoother and is based less on anatomical correctness and more on fantasy. This version of Freddy is also a lot stronger and bigger, requiring a muscle suit under Robert Englund's costume.  We had to enlarge Freddy's prosthetics to match his new larger body.  Also created was a hand and arm prosthetic "glove" for Freddy's left hand which was devised to cut down on the application time and to allow for quick removal between shots. Another scene required about 24 Freddy's to appear together.  We accomplished this by creating 25 latex stunt masks (shown above) for actors to wear that were based on Freddy's makeup design.
